Gone, but not forgotten… Atlanta Comics Expo – ACE – would like to say goodbye and thank you to all who supported it. In just two short years, ACE developed into a very unique and exciting event, blending comics, animation, pop art, designer toys, anime, and costuming with plenty of the after-hours programming and parties that have made Dragon*Con legendary. Given time, we feel certain that ACE would have blossomed into a true destination event, providing a creative retreat for fans, vendors and creators alike. ACE opened our eyes to the growing popularity and importance of these additional mediums, and provided a welcome springboard to introduce fans to the many facets of pop art. However, we feel that in order to produce the most enjoyable event possible for all in attendance, we must focus all of our energies on one event. To that end, we have expanded the Comics track at Dragon*Con, now relabeled Comics and Pop Art. In the weeks to come, Dragon*Con will announce many new guests, programs and festivities designed to infuse a fresh vitality into Dragon*Con’s pop art programming. We invite all who embraced ACE to join us in this new direction. In 2008, look for to the Comics and Pop Art track at Dragon*Con to include an exclusive toy release from artist Kathie Olivas, a pop art reception at the gorgeous Sheraton Garden Pool, a special Jack Kirby presentation with Greg Theakston, a comics artist jam, a custom Munny fundraiser (featuring Huck Gee and Sket One, among many others) for the American Heart Association, and a thrilling surprise (for all you vinyl toy fanatics) to be announced 30 days prior to the show (sorry, but we’re sworn to secrecy). These are but a few of the exciting programs and events on tap for Dragon*Con, in addition to an amazing and diverse lineup of guests that includes:
and many, many more! Please continue to visit the ACE MySpace page (www.myspace.com/atlantacomicsexpo), as it will soon become the online home of the Dragon*Con Comics and Pop Art track, with news and announcements regarding this exciting new direction. Thanks again to all those who supported ACE in its brief but exciting history and we look forward to your continued support at Dragon*Con for many years to come.
