Costuming
In keeping with ACE’s goal of celebrating the visual arts…costumes and costuming will be well represented. In addition to The Costume Contest (with CASH prizes) and The Saturday night Masquerade Ball, there will be many panels and programs throughout the weekend focusing on this much celebrated art form. Here’s a sampling of what you can expect:
- Fabric in Design
From wool to spandex, the choice of fabric can make or break a costume. However, varying fabrics come with their own pluses and minuses. We’ll discuss different types of fabrics and what can be expected when working with them.
- Positive (and Negative) Impressions part 1: Life Casting
Whether you’re looking for pointed ears or an entirely different face, the path to the perfect appliance begins with life casting. We’ll take a look at what it takes to make your own. The first part of a 2-part series.
- Weaponry
You want a characters weapon to look like the real deal. But it has to be practical and above all street legal. We’ll talk about ways to build prop weapons that will get lots of attention from fans and not the police.
- Flash, Blam, and Pow!
Special effects can really add to the presentation of a costume… but it can be a nightmare, too. We’ll look at methods for creating and applying practical effects and how to avoid F/X hell.
